about

Based on the four-movement baroque Sonata, this daunting, aching, at-times cheeky, and poignant work of Sergei Prokofiev was written in 1932. The composer apparently created the work in reaction to hearing a 'bad' work for two violins, and was inspired to create a 'better' one.

Establishing a new standard of what two of the same stringed instruments are capable of accomplishing, my long-time collaborator Jin-Shan Dai and I have presented this work over the last 5 years and have been inspired to grow with, and through, this music. We're delighted to share it with you, here!
